Horizon Church History
Horizon Church got started through a Bible Study that began meeting at Pastor Bud's house in July of 2004. About 15 people participated in that original Bible Study. We held our first public Sunday morning service on Sunday, October 24, 2004 at the Salisbury Township Middle School. Approximately 35 people came to that first service. Renovations at that school caused us to move to the Harry S. Truman Elementary School in June 2005, where we currently meet. We have continued to grow and now more than 80 people attend on a typical Sunday morning.
Horizon Church has been able to achieve several goals:
- The Horizon Band now leads worship every Sunday morning. Most of the members grew up listening to rock music so they make an effort to do pretty contemporary music.
- Most Sunday services include a mix of video, drama, movie clips, and more in an attempt to help each of them connect their daily living with the message of a timeless God.
- Horizon Church has a great program for younger kids, preschool through 5th grade. They meet every Sunday at the same time as our worship service. The kids are enthusiastic about this program that combines Bible stories with active learning. Teachers also plan events and parties in addition to the Sunday program.
- A nursery is available for the youngest children and they believe even the youngest kids can have fun and learn. Teachers in the nursery involve the youngest kids with simple lessons, songs, and age-appropriate activities.
- The Connections Cafe opens every Sunday morning at 9:30 A.M. Good coffee and other hot and cold drinks are served. Fresh-baked desserts and fruit are available every Sunday. Quite a few people take advantage of the Connections Cafe to connect with friends and grab some refreshments before the service begins.
