faith in action!

Since 2009, the members of Horizon have taken a Sunday in the fall to "Be the Church", instead of "Going to Church". On this special Sunday, the doors of the building are closed, but the hearts of the church are wide open. Members are encouraged to participate in several community service projects on this day as a practical way to show God's love to others. At least one ongoing ministry has emerged from this focused day of service, and our desire is to see projects like this become a regular part of what Horizon is all about.

Some examples of Faith in Action projects we have done in the past few years are:

  • Painting and Cleanup at CareNet
  • Cleanup of a local cemetery
  • Singing and sharing at a local nursing home
  • Volunteering at animal shelter events
  • Providing and sharing a meal with area fire fighters
  • Collecting and distributing personal care items, clothing, and food to the homeless
  • Cleaning up neighborhood streets
  • Making baskets for new mothers
  • Baking goodies for area teachers
  • Yard cleanup for single mothers
  • and more...
